Cultural Reformations of Peter the Great
Summary: This essay argues that Peter the Great's reformations in Russia were good for the people and the history of the country.
Peter I of Russia is known as Peter the Great for a reason. The cultural reformations that Peter applied to Russian society, forever changed Russia from being what Europeans viewed as a backwards and barbaric country to a highly developed power. Peter I made other important changes in Russia, yet without the cultural transformations, he would not have been able to make the other appropriate reforms that he made in other places. Peter turned Russia from a traditional Slavic nation into a modern European society. Among the changes that he made included those of dress and hairstyles, written language and literature, and status. All of the previously mentioned were changed to be more like the strong European countries at the time such as Sweden, Poland, and France; and for Russia to be accepted and welcomed as part of the European community.
