Summary: Essay is an evaluation of Christopher Columbus's status as a hero.
I strongly believe that Columbus Day should no longer be celebrated in our school system. Columbus Day teaches young kids of the greatness of Christopher Columbus, without sharing with them the details of his less honorable acts. After Hitler's genocide caused World War II, I do not believe that it is right to just overlook what Christopher Columbus did to the Incas and Aztecs, and pretend that he is still a hero.

While it may be fun to give kids a hero to hold onto, dedicating a holiday to Christopher Columbus is not the best way to give children a role model. He did not show courage or endurance in the name of discovery, Columbus was after the money that he believed could be received by traveling to Asia and back. Columbus did not discover America, he "encountered" it. Columbus was after the riches that could be achieved...
