Andy Warhol
Summary: Essay contains a biography of Andy Warhol describing his life as well as his accomplishments.
Art can be pleasurable; it does not have to be deep. Andy Warhol's pieces of work were not exactly profound. He developed his own style from, "taking an image familiar to millions and presenting it frontally, without painterly qualities..." (Shanes 52). Warhol's painting entitled 32 Campbell's Soup Cans reflects the Pop Art movement of the 1960's.
Born Andrew Warhola on August 6, 1928, Warhol was one of three boys in a Czechoslovakian immigrant working-class family. Growing up during the Great Depression in Forest City, Pennsylvania, Warhol faced an unstable household. Andy Warhol's father, Ondrej, was a construction worker and later on became a coal miner. In 1942 his father died after a three- year illness (Ratcliff 117). To earn money to support his family, Andy sold fruit from a truck and works in a dime store.
