Summary: A short essay of my opinion regarding the secret trust we have in a doctor and how that does not work for Dimsdale.
Few secrets can escape an investigator who has the opportunity and liscence to undertake such a quest, and skill to follow it up. A man burndened with a secret should especially avoid the intimacy of his physician. The qoute/narrator is saying basically watch what you say to people, watch your back, because everyone is not always on your side, they are not always who they seem to be such as the devil in disguise. This quote is said by the narrator but is talking about Dimsdale and Dr. Chillingsworth. Throughout Ch.3 towards the end to now the end Chillingsworth was talking to Hester saying how his anger was not towards her nor Pearl, but towards someone else and I think she had some kind of a guilty feeling about who it was towards.
