In the beginning it seemed that Hester was a nice person because of her looks. Since she had sinned none of the Puritans had liked her. They treated her bad because of the one sin she had committed adultery, which they should have forgiven her. "The young woman was tall, with a figure of perfect elegance, on a large scale. They set Hester apart from the other Puritans like she was the devil.

She was treated very different than the other Puritans by the other Puritans. They always looked at her as a bad person because of the sin she had committed.
