Throughout the course of The Man Who was Thursday, Chesterton uses numerous vivid languages to convey emphasis to different interpretations of his piece. Through the use of rhetorical devices, Chesterton allows for numerous interpretations to be thought of by the reader. To this day, various interpretations of the novel can still be picked up depending on how the devices are understood. Through the use of paradox, anaphora sets the standard for comparison. However, Chesterton utilizes many other devices to encompass contrasting interpretations. One such device, anaphora, places emphasis and strengthens the effect of a sentence. Chesterton uses anaphora to emphasize the significance of a certain idea being spoken about throughout the book.
