Oxygen was discovered by two different chemists working individually at similar times. The first to find it was Carl Scheele in 1772 who was a Swedish chemist. The second was Joseph Priestly in 1774 who was an English chemist.
Oxygen is usually found in the air and water although it is mixed with many other elements. The way to get oxygen by itself is through electrolysis of the water in which electricity is run through water until it separates into oxygen and hydrogen. Another way is to cool the air until separate elements turn into water at different times then oxygen. Oxygen then liquefies at -182.9°c the density of liquid oxygen is 1.14 gm/c.c. Oxygen solidifies at -218.4°c.
