Conflict in "The Scarlet Ibis"

Summary: Essay describes the conflict in the novel "The Scarlet Ibis" by James Hurst, which is about a young boy, who is mentally challenged. He has an old brother (the narrator) who takes care of him.
Many authors have written about a slow child. Movies, novels, and biographies, most of them well written. A lot of conflicts are in these stories. External conflict (Conflict taken out through a physical force) isn't exactly the main way. Internal conflict (Struggles within the mind of a character) is a popular type of conflict in these particular types of stories. Usually the character will struggle with thoughts, or just not know what to do or think. This is Internal conflict. In the Scarlet Ibis, Doodle plays the part of a young boy. Whose older brother, the narrator takes care of him. Three main conflicts in this short story are when Doodle is forced to touch his own casket by the narrator, Doodle learns how to walk, and when Doodle dies.
