Personal Response:
I was drawn to read this poem because of the title C2H5OH. It is not a standard title made up of words but a scientific chemical formula. I was intrigued to read on and uncover what it stood for - alcohol - and was greatly moved by the text as it seems very real to me and I could form an image of the problem in my head because of the figurative language. I translated it to mean to me this person was fighting against the pull of alcoholism, comparing its strength to that of the ocean, which moves slow and seductively on its victims. This person realises the problem, chooses life over death, and battles against it.
