Reaching for Dreams
Summary: Essay discusses the dreams of the characters in the family and what happened to those dreams in the novel "A Raisin in the Sun" by Lorraine Hansberry.
Brought to America as slaves, struggling through segregation, and finding their own identity, African Americans have accomplished a lot in the last few decades and have faced many hardships and struggles throughout history. Although many other people have faced hardships and struggles as well, none have had to carry around a shadow of hate with them for so many years and none had it as bad as the African Americans did. Even after winning their so-called "freedom" racism and prejudice still existed among the people that surrounded them causing inner-identity struggles, problems with family relations, and of course, problems with the society. Although they didn't have any freedom, they did have their dreams. This was one thing that no one could take from them.
