With Agnes the woman, and the influence for all good which she came to exercise over me at a later time, this story does not deal.  It need only record the simple details of the girl’s quiet life,—­of the girl’s calm strong nature,—­that there were goodness, peace and truth wherever Agnes was,—­Agnes, my boyhood’s sister, counsellor and friend.
