The happy ending Streatfeild fashions [in When the Sirens Wailed, U.S. title of When the Siren Wailed] could be called contrived, but it's satisfying—enough within the realm of possibility to be believed and certainly fitting Streatfeild's well-developed sense of the storytelling craft.
