Jorge Ibargüengoitia (1928-1983) is best known today for his novels and satirical vignettes of Mexican life, but his first love was the theatre. He wrote over a dozen plays between 1953 and the early 1960's and also stinted as a drama critic. He penned thirty-one articles for the “Teatro” column in Revista de la Universidad de México from March 1961 to July 1964 (Rehder 138-139), writings that were to bring him notoriety as a witty and truculent critic.
