In his recent novella Taratuta (1990), José Donoso, as narrator, begins by making us aware of the need to question received versions of history:

Como tantas cosas relacionadas con el legado Schmidt, este párrafo está lleno de datos que parecen contradecir los que aportaban otros tratadistas . . .
