Dictionary of Literary Biography on Yolande Villemaire
Yolande Villemaire has contributed to Quebec literature in several ways--as a theater critic, a literature teacher, and, especially, as a poet and novelist. The daughter of Normand Villemaire, a carpenter, and Evangeline Larose Villemaire, a schoolteacher, she was born in 1949 in Saint-Augustin, Comté des Deux-Montagnes, just outside Montreal. She finished her studies at the Collège Sainte-Marie in 1969 and in 1970 received a B.A. (with a specialty in the dramatic arts) from the Université du Québec à Montréal (U.Q.A.M.). In 1974 she completed her M.A. at U.Q.A.M., having produced a thesis on the Quebec playwright Michel Tremblay. She pursued her studies at the doctoral level from 1978 to 1980 at the Université de Montréal and plans to undertake a thesis there with an essay on creative writing under the direction of Professor Lise Gauvin...
