Dictionary of Literary Biography on Teolinda Gersao
Teolinda Gersão is the author of a significant body of literary work and one of the most innovative female voices of Portugal in the decades following the 25 April 1974 revolution. This military coup put an end to a repressive fascist dictatorship that had endured for almost fifty years and set the stage for a reform process that reshaped the entire country's socio-economic, political, and cultural landscape. As a consequence of the sweeping changes that took place in the aftermath of the coup, many cultural and political theorists embarked on an evaluation of the victories and losses associated with the postrevolutionary period.
