Dictionary of Literary Biography on Steinunn Sigurdardottir
In 1969 Steinunn Sigurdardóttir published her first book of poetry, Sífellur (Continuances), immediately gaining critical attention. She was then living in Dublin. Sífellur was followed by Þar og þá (There and Then) in 1971, also affording the poet critical acclaim. While the poems in the first book were clearly modernistic in tone, indications were already apparent of a move toward a different approach to poetic language that becomes clear in Þar og þá, and Steinunn was applauded as a part of a new movement in poetry, gaining popularity in the mid 1970s, usually referred to as "listaskáldin vondu," or "the bad poets," although some of these authors later became known as "fyndna kynslódin," or "the funny generation."
