Sports Stars on Sergei Fedorov
Over the course of the 1993-94 season, his fourth in the National Hockey League (NHL), Detroit Red Wings center Sergei Fedorov made a strong case for being the most complete player in hockey. Having established himself in his first three seasons as one of the game's finest two-way players--equally capable of scoring goals and stopping his opponent--Fedorov went from being an outstanding player to being one of the dominant stars in the league. Fedorov is the first non-Canadian-trained player to win the Hart Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL's Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Fedorov followed his MVP season with another great year in 1995. He led the Red Wings to the Stanley Cup Finals, but unfortunately the New Jersey Devils were too tough. Fedorov and his teammates kept on fighting and improving, however, and came back to win back-to-back Stanley Cup championships.
