Dictionary of Literary Biography on Rogelio Sinan
The career of Rogelio Sinán--poet, short-story writer, novelist, playwright, diplomat, and educator--represents a high point in Panamanian letters. As Guillermo Andreve writes in his article "Rogelio Sinán, abanderado y maestro," published in 1933 in Biblioteca Nacional (National Library), Sinán is known both nationally and internationally as "el abanderado y maestro de las letras panameñas" (the standard-bearer and master of the Panamanian letters). After the publication of Onda (Wave, 1929), his first book of poems, Sinán was credited with initiating the avant-garde movement in Panama. Though one of the greatest poets that Panama produced, he remains little known; his books of poetry were put out typically by publishing houses of modest renown.
