Dictionary of Literary Biography on Roberto Sosa
Roberto Sosa is considered the national poet of Honduras and one of the best Central American poets. Son of Acisclo Sosa and Petrona Murillo Villalobos, Roberto Sosa was born in Yoro, Honduras, on 18 April 1930. Because of his father's profession as a band musician, Sosa at the age of three left Yoro with his family and traveled constantly in Honduras and El Salvador. The family did not come back to Yoro until Sosa was eleven years old. His mother taught him how to read and write. But times were hard, and Sosa had to start working at the age of five or six, selling bread on the train that carried the banana workers to a plantation. Sosa was able to attend school, however, and in the fifth grade he first experienced the mystery and the power of poetry while reading a handwritten anthology laboriously prepared by his Spanish teacher...
