Dictionary of Literary Biography on Robert J(ames) Sawyer
Robert J. Sawyer has taken an active role within the science-fiction community both in Canada and around the world, and he has worked to promote international awareness of Canadian science fiction. He is the author of twelve novels (with more planned) as well as many pieces of short fiction, and he has served as president of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, founded the Canadian division of that organization, and won several national and international awards. In addition to his fiction, Sawyer wrote a column, "On Writing," for the Canadian science-fiction magazine On Spec from Spring 1995 to Winter 1997. He has taught science-fiction writing at Ryerson Polytechnic University, the University of Toronto, and various writers' workshops and has co-edited three anthologies of Canadian fiction.
