Dictionary of Literary Biography on Ray Guy
Ray Guy was born in Come-By-Chance, Newfoundland, on 22 April 1939, to George Hynes and Alice Louise Guy. He was raised in Arnold's Cove, Placentia Bay, where he went to school; his sketches describe his teachers--a range of people that sometimes seem like miserable sadistic misfits but also include men and women who were inspiring and dedicated. After a year at Memorial University in St. John's in 1957, he moved to Toronto to study journalism at Ryerson Polytechnic Institute. After his graduation in 1963, he returned to St. John's to work for the Evening Telegram. His career with the newspaper lasted more or less regularly till 1975, the year he married Katherine Housser of Port Alberni, British Columbia; they have two daughters, Anne and Rachel. Currently living in St. John's, Guy works as a freelance journalist, story-writer, and playwright; his work is published regularly in Atlantic Insight, Newfoundland Quarterly, This Week, and other...
