Dictionary of Literary Biography on Peter Such
Peter Such is a member of the influential generation of contemporary Canadian writers who introduced new vitality into the creation, publication, and appreciation of Canadian literature in the 1960s and 1970s. None of his contemporaries has been more eclectic than Such, whose work includes poetry, short stories, and novels, a biographical study of six contemporary Canadian composers, an anthropological history of the aboriginal peoples of Newfoundland, a recently completed retrospective on the McMichael Gallery of Kleinburg, Ontario, as well as plays, an opera libretto, and scripts for television and film.
Peter Such was born in London, England, and immigrated to Canada in 1953. After completing secondary school in Toronto and earning B.A. and M.A. degrees in English at the University of Toronto (1960, 1966), he withdrew from formal postgraduate work in 1967 to pursue inter-disciplinary studies independently.
