Dictionary of Literary Biography on Paul Auster
On the back cover of the December 1995 issue of the Parisian journal magazine littéraire there is an impressive full-page, color advertisement for the French editions of Paul Auster's work. The ad features fourteen book covers above which are the words: "Auster Dix Ans (1985-1995) Une Oeuvre." This endorsement illustrates a curious fact about Auster: during the mid 1980s and early 1990s, he became one of America's major new novelists; yet, his reputation in other countries far exceeds that which he has at home. For example, magazine littéraire devotes almost sixty pages to Auster in an article titled "Le Monde est Dans Ma Tête, Mon Corps est Dans le Monde" (The World is In My Head, My Body is In the World).
