"Mystery writers hoping to hook teenagers could use (Patricia) Windsor as a model," according to reviewer Cathi Dunn MacRae in Wilson Library Bulletin. But being a leader in her field didn't come overnight for Windsor. "I began writing very early--at about age ten," she once told Something about the Author (SATA). "I always had a long list of titles for future novels ... but never finished any of them (at least not until I was much older).... In high school I wrote poetry--have the honor of holding thirty-five rejection slips from Seventeen magazine.... For awhile I wrote a lot of science fiction... but never had any of it published." As an adult, Windsor began writing novels for young adults, and not only experienced the thrill of seeing her work published but was also honored with awards.
