Dictionary of Literary Biography on Oliver Madox Hueffer
Oliver Madox Hueffer has achieved footnote fame in literary history as the younger brother of the modernist editor and writer Ford Madox Ford. Often described as an exaggerated version of Ford, Hueffer had an erratic career and became involved in financial and sexual exploits resembling those that haunted his more famous brother--to the point where certain characters and plot details in Hueffer's novels could be loosely based on the life of either brother. Best known during his lifetime as a novelist and war correspondent, Hueffer wrote many newspaper and journal articles; had several plays produced; and published four books of nonfiction, one volume of short stories, and twelve novels, five of them under the pseudonym Jane Wardle.
