Dictionary of Literary Biography on Norman (Wicklund) Macleod
Norman Wicklund Macleod, college professor, editor of literary magazines, poet, and novelist, was born in Salem, Oregon, and was raised in the western United States. His poetry and fiction are influenced by the cultural traditions and history of the Spanish and American Indian civilizations, the natural beauty and rugged life of the western frontier, his perceptions of urban despair, and his left-wing political interests. His style ranges from the lyrical realism of early works to Surrealism later. Macleod founded and edited a number of literary magazines between 1928 and 1978, and although he was only in Paris for a few months, as editor of the literary magazine Morada founded in late 1929, he developed strong ties with the expatriate literary community in Paris, corresponding with Kay Boyle, Robert McAlmon, and transition's editor Eugene Jolas, among others.
