Dictionary of Literary Biography on Mrs. Steuart Erskine
Beatrice Caroline Erskine, who published many of her writings under the name Mrs. Steuart Erskine, belongs to that class of early-twentieth-century authors who combine British upper-class sensibilities with the stylistic technique and workaday prose of the journeyman. Aside from what can be gleaned from her writings, little is known of her personal life. Born in London, daughter of H. Linwood Strong, she married R. Steuart Erskine and had memberships in the Royal Geographical Society, the Royal Empire Society, the Royal Central Asia Society, and the Women Geographers, America.
Erskine's writing spanned several decades and a wide variety of forms and genres. Her earliest literary efforts were in belles lettres and the fine arts--plays, poetry, novels, and art criticism.
