Mo Vaughn, the big first baseman of the Boston Red Sox, scares many pitchers in the American League (AL). He stands six feet one inch tall and weighs 240 pounds. Vaughn wears gold chains and a scowl on his face that worries even the fiercest competitor. What really scares opposing pitchers, however, is Vaughn's powerful swing, a swing that sent 39 baseballs into orbit in 1995 and 44 more in 1996. Despite looking mean on the field Vaughn is one of baseball's nicest players. The 1995 AL Most Valuable Player (MVP) on the field, and a community leader in his private life, Vaughn has established himself as one of baseball's best players.
