Born December 18, 1927, in New York's east Bronx. Sachs grew up in the "railroad" apartment on Jennings Street. "Jennings Street had no trees, birds, or flowers. But it had kids. Every day after school and all day on the weekends, holidays, and during the summer vacation, the kids poured out of the apartment houses and filled the sidewalks, the playground, and the street itself. Hardly any cars ever came through so that the street served as a field for stickball or a rink for roller skaters."¹
