Dictionary of Literary Biography on Marcel Dugas
Marcel Dugas was born at Saint-Jacques-de-L'Achigan, Quebec, on 3 September 1883. His mother was Rose-de-Lima Brien dit Des Roches Dugas. His father, Euclide Dugas, served as a captain in the militia and earned his living as a merchant. From 1895 to 1897 Marcel studied at the Séminaire de Joliette, then went to the Collège de l'Assomption where he received his B.A. in 1906. That same year he enrolled in law school at Laval University in Montreal. At this time he also began a literary career, often signing his articles with a nom de plume. The most important of these pseudonyms were Marcel Henry, Tristan Choiseul, and Sixte Le Débonnaire. He wrote theater reviews for Le Nationaliste, L'Action Française , and Le Pays until 1910, when he received La Médaille de l'Alliance Française and left for Paris and the Sorbonne. Back in Canada...
