Dictionary of Literary Biography on Lucha Corpi

Lucha Corpi was born 13 April 1945 in Jáltipan, Veracruz, Mexico, and immigrated to the United States as a newlywed at the age of nineteen. Since that time she has lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area and is a vital part of the Chicano literary world in California. She is a founding member of two significant Chicano arts organizations, Aztlán Cultural (1971) and the Centro Chicano de Escritores (Center for Chicano Writers, 1980), and has served as an officer of both groups. She holds a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.A. in comparative literature from San Francisco State University. Her poetry and fiction have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, in the United States as well as in Mexico.
