Larry Niven writes science fiction with an emphasis on hard science. In his Hugo and Nebula award-winning book Ringworld, Niven constructed an enormous hoop-shaped artificial planet a million miles wide and with a diameter of 190 million miles. All the scientific questions about such a mega-planet were answered by the author, who stated in an interview with Jeffrey Elliot in Science Fiction Review that he attempts to make his stories "as technically accurate as possible." Niven created in his Ringworld the "greatest of fictional artifacts," according to Bud Foote in Detroit News.
