Lajos Kassák is the best-known author of Hungarian avant-garde literature, and his works have been translated into many languages. In addition, he created a noteworthy body of artwork that is closely connected with his literary output. Between 1915 and 1939 he edited such important avant-garde reviews as A Tett (The Deed), Ma (Today), 2 x 2, Dokumentum (Document), and Munka (Creative Work). These reviews reported on everything new in the worlds of literature, visual arts, industrial design, music, theater, dance, photography, and motion pictures. Kassák attracted talented young people as contributors to his periodicals, and many poets and novelists describe in their memoirs the large extent to which they were influenced by his free school.
