Kofi Anyidoho aroused considerable enthusiasm from reviewers with Elegy for the Revolution (1978), his first published volume of poems. Since then, with each subsequent published collection, he has strengthened his claim to preeminence among African poets of English expression. His poetry has appeared in journals and magazines in Africa, Europe, and America, and already his work has received considerable scholarly attention from critics in Europe and Africa. Although he is probably better known as a poet, his achievement as a scholar is by no means slight. He has published an impressive body of articles and book chapters in publications in New Zealand, Germany, France, Yugoslavia, the United States, the United Kingdom, and several African countries.
