Dictionary of Literary Biography on Karolina Karlovna Pavlova
In his introduction to the two-volume edition of the works of Karolina Karlovna Pavlova that he edited in 1915 Valerii Iakovlevich Briusov wrote: I hope that our edition will at least partially satisfy all true lovers of poetry, who until recently had been deprived of the opportunity to acquaint themselves with the works of one of our best poets. We see our work as a first step in the study of Karolina Pavlova's poetry and the publication of her works. Pavlova has periodically attracted the attention of literary scholars. Her life vividly demonstrates the fate of one of the few woman poets in nineteenth-century Russia, the discord present in the literary era of that century, and the fate of a gifted individual who was misunderstood and underappreciated by her contemporaries, as well as almost forgotten by posterity.
