Dictionary of Literary Biography on Justo S. Alarcon
The poet, fiction writer, and critic Justo S. Alarcón was born on 10 March 1930 in Río Gordo, a small town in the province of Málaga, Spain. His father was a schoolteacher. After Alarcón completed his primary education in his hometown, his father placed him in a Franciscan boarding school. He received his bachelor's degree in philosophy in 1951 at the Seráfica of Santiago. He earned his master's degree in theology at the same institution in 1954. Traveling to Canada to pursue further studies, he received a master's degree in sociology from L'Université Laval in Quebec in 1959. He began to explore the American Southwest at this time and decided to settle in Arizona. He enrolled at Arizona State University at Tempe, where he received a master's degree in Spanish in 1966.
