The Academia de la Nueva Raza (the Academy of the New People) was founded in 1970 by several Nuevo Mexicanos (New Mexicans)--Tomás Atencio, E.A. Mares, Juan Estevan Arellano, and others--to study, analyze, understand, and appreciate the dimension and scope of the economy, society, culture, and psyche of the northern Nuevo Mexicano and to help the community appreciate the knowledge, wisdom, and culture of their environment and circumstances.
