It has been over fifteen years since Jeremy Brooks has had a novel published, yet he is a serious writer who tackles significant themes and has earned substantial critical praise. He treats the issues of pacifism, identity, and emotional commitment with insight and tenderness, and the consequences of his characters' choices, even when choosing not to choose, wend their way unobtrusively through his novels. Brooks himself drifted away from novel writing out of economic necessity. When faced with a growing family and literary reputation but pitifully small financial success, he opted for commissioned work, earning substantial sums for writing adaptations of plays and stories for stage and screen as well as original scripts.
