Dictionary of Literary Biography on Jean (Rene) Follain
As a result of Jean Follain's poetic independence, it is difficult to place or classify him within any category of twentieth-century poetry. Although he did establish close ties with various members of the Sagesse group in the 1920s and 1930s and of the Ecole de Rochefort in the 1940s, he never truly belonged to any particular school in a strict sense, nor did he profess acceptance of any specific poetic doctrine. Moreover, in spite of his successful career as a lawyer and judge, he kept a guarded distance from the wide spectrum of national and international political events of his time.
