Dictionary of Literary Biography on Jean-Louis Trudel
Jean-Louis Trudel, writer, critic, translator, and teacher of physics and astronomy, is an ardent promoter of French-Canadian science fiction and a member of various literary organizations and associations, including SF Canada, for which he served as president from 1994 to 1996. Perhaps best known for his science-fiction novels for adolescents in the "Jeunesse-pop" series published by Médiaspaul, Trudel has also written mystery novels for adolescents as well as several science-fiction novels for adults published in France. He is also a distinguished, award-winning short-story writer and a regular contributor to the science-fiction magazines Solaris and imagine . . . , both published in Quebec. A finalist in several writing contests, Trudel won the first-place Solaris prize for "Les Instincteurs de cruauté" (The Cruelty Instinctors, 1992) and the 1997 Prix Aurora for "Lamente-toi, sagesse!" (Weep, O Wisdom!, 1996). The latter prize is awarded to the best science-fiction or fantasy short story in Canada.
