World of Criminal Justice on Hillside Strangler

From October of 1977 until February of 1978, a total of ten young women were abducted and murdered. Many of these young women were also tortured and raped. Their bodies were discovered in the hillsides around the city of Los Angeles, California. The unknown murderer (though police believed two men were responsible) became known as "The Hillside Strangler."

The victims of these murders were atypical, largely responsible young women raised in middle-class neighborhoods in the Glendale-Highland Park area outside of Los Angeles. What investigators began to suspect, however, was that more than one person was involved in committing these crimes. The investigation of the Hillside Strangler revealed a significant amount of forensic evidence, such as hair and fibers found on or near the victims, that particularly implicated two people as the perpetrators of the crime. Officials arrested the two men, Kenneth Bianchi and Angelo Buono, who were cousins.
