Dictionary of Literary Biography on Hernando del Pulgar

Hernando del Pulgar, also known as Fernando de Pulgar and Fernando del Pulgar, was a diplomat and humanist historian who lived during the second half of the fifteenth century. He is mainly known for two works, the Crónica de los muy altos y esclarecidos reyes cathólicos don Fernando y doña Ysabel de gloriosa memoria (Chronicle of the Very Powerful and Excellent Catholic Monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella of Glorious Memory, 1482-1490) and the Claros Varones de Castilla (Illustrious Noblemen of Castile, 1486), the latter of which is considered by many scholars to be his masterpiece. Both works show Pulgar's gratitude and dedication to King Fernando II of Aragon (who became Fernando V of Castile) and Queen Isabel I of Castile; he was especially devoted to the queen, to whom he dedicated the Claros Varones de Castilla.
