Dictionary of Literary Biography on Henry Porter
Henry Porter is the author of The Two Angry Women of Abington, a remarkably innovative comedy of the late sixteenth century. He is listed in Philip Henslowe's diary as the author and coauthor of plays for the Admiral's Men in 1598 and 1599, and the diary also notes that he borrowed money from Henslowe in 1596-1599. The plays attributed to him in the diary are Love Prevented (part of this entry may be forged), Black Bateman of the North, part 2 (with Henry Chettle and Robert Wilson). Hot Anger Soon Cold (with Ben Jonson and Chettle), part 2 of The Two Angry Women of Abington, Two Merry Women of Abington, and The Spencers (with Chettle). All of these works are lost.
