Despite Henry Kuttner's major contributions to the development of science-fiction and fantasy writing during the 1940s, the work of this prolific author has been generally neglected by both popular and critical audiences since his death in 1958. While other alumni of the pulp magazines that shaped the character of contemporary science-fiction have been accorded considerable attention both as pioneers and as benchmarks within the genre, Kuttner's name has become progressively more obscure. If he is known at all, it is as the author of a few widely anthologized short stories and as a marginal figure in the distinguished history of Astounding Science Fiction .
