In 1955 H. C. Branner contributed an essay called "Barndommens mose" (Childhood's Bog) to Glimt af barndommen (Glimpse of Childhood), an anthology of childhood memories by prominent Danish authors. In this essay Branner recalls his fourth birthday, when he first became aware of a mysterious bog in the woods near his home.
