Dictionary of Literary Biography on Girolamo Comi
Girolamo Comi's poetry began as a rebellion against the Enlightenment philosophy that exalted science and reason over art. Comi delighted in aesthetics and, later, in spirituality, and his poetry reflects these preferences. Nourished by the teachings of anthroposophic and theologic philosophy, and influenced by symbolist thinking, Comi developed a curiosity for the mysteries of creation and the scientific and rational laws that govern it. Later in his life, Comi's adoption of Catholic dogma compelled him to demonstrate the beauty of the universe, showing the greatness of its Creator, to whom Comi's poetry aspired. He used his poetry to sing the harmony and order of God's universe.
