Dictionary of Literary Biography on Georg Neumark
In his own time Georg Neumark was recognized for his versatile literary publications, but not long after his death his work paled into insignificance in the eyes of posterity. Today he is well known among experts as historian and Erzschreinhalter (head of the archives) of the Fruchtbringende Gesellschaft (Fruit-bringing Society) in the time of Duke Wilhelm IV of Saxe-Weimar and also as author of the baroque poetics Poetische Tafeln, oder Gründliche Anweisung zur Teutschen Verskunst (Poetic Tables; or, Thorough Instruction in the Art of German Verse, 1667). His name is still found in standard works on the history of music, in particular of hymns, although this genre forms only a small part of his work; and he is considered one of the most imaginative composers of continuo songs in baroque Germany.
