Dictionary of Literary Biography on Galway Kinnell
Galway Kinnell was born in Providence, Rhode Island. He received an A.B. from Princeton University in 1948 and an M.A. from the University of Rochester in 1949. Kinnell served in the U.S. Navy in 1945-1946. He married Ines Delgado de Torres and has two children, Maud Natasha and Fergus. He was supervisor of the liberal arts program at the University of Chicago's downtown campus from 1951 through 1954, after which he taught at the University of Grenoble and later at the University of Iran as a Fulbright Professor. He has been poet-in-residence at Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania; Colorado State University; Reed College in Portland, Oregon; the University of California at Irvine; and the University of Iowa.
