Dictionary of Literary Biography on Frank Brady
Frank Brady's reputation in the field of literary biography rests on James Boswell: The Later Years, 1769-1795 (1984); on his skillful editing of several volumes of Boswell's journals; and on his thirty years of work on the Yale edition of Boswell's papers. He completed the biography of Boswell that his colleague and mentor Frederick A. Pottle had begun with James Boswell: The Early Years, 1740-1769 (1966), and Brady collaborated with Pottle on many other editorial and scholarly tasks. Throughout his career Brady was devoted to organizing, preserving, and presenting Boswell's writings and to protecting Boswell's reputation against attacks by critics. Brady did all his research with scrupulous care, and the scholarly community will always be indebted to him for his efforts.
